"Steel-engraved and chromolithographed novelty souvenir in the shape of a rose. Printed on both sides. 23-26 cm in diameter. Folded as issued and in the original printed envelope. (14.5 x 8.5cm) in very good condition. A rare souvenir issued in commemoration of Burke and Wills, the second of two (or more?) such souvenirs. The envelope is printed with the title in gilt and with portraits of Burke, Wills and King inside ornamental borders. The rose souvenir with 26 steel-engraved views of Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat is apparently derived from 'Victoria Illustrated' and other images by Gill. Laid down on a quarter of one side is the separately printed chromolithographed image of two roses and rose leaves, the only printed area visible when the souvenir is folded together. " -- Harbeck.
