Images of Tiwi people of Melville Island performing Pukumani ceremonies. The Pukumani ceremony takes place two to six months after the burial. Dancers circle around the formation of specially carved memorial poles, called tutini, to mark the end of the ceremony. Painted bark baskets are placed on top of the poles which are made from the trunk of the ironwood tree. The poles are are decorated to to celebrate the deceased person's life and spiritual journey --Information from reference source.
