- Biography/History:

The National Australia Day Council briefed George Patterson to produce a national campaign to really engage Australians with our national day. The aim was to reinforce all the good things about living here and being Australian. The theme 'Do it for your nation' was brought to life in a series of posters with a call to all Australians to do what they do best - throw a barbecue, head to the beach or take a picnic to watch the fireworks. The posters encouraged Australians to embrace these duties with a sense of pride and purpose. Stylistically based on 1940s travel posters and the propaganda posters of WWII, the appeal of the campaign hinges on the combination of humorous headlines juxtaposted with the typically solemn graphics.
