- Inscriptions: "The Tree of Knowledge died through kindness. One of the many traditional sites of the Garden of Eden was at the junction of Iraq's twin rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates. The Arabs of the region assert that the 'Tree of Knowledge' still yielded apples up to World War 1. The engineers of a British Unit erected a low retaining wall around the trunk and filled it with good soil. The Tree of Knowledge promptly died. The old stump is still standing and is venerated by all who come to see it"--Typewritten note attached to verso.
