Summary

Boyd speaks of some of his paintings of life in Melbourne, the artistic techniques that he has used in his works, explaining some of the symbolism he used in his works, recalls his first job in paint factory and how he learnt about paint, painting as a way of life and as a craft, the influence of music on his painting, the influence of his artistic family members on his development as a painter, his artistic mentors, life in Suffolk compared to Australia, Australian painting in the 1940s and the influence of a Melbourne group of painters, the European influence on Australian painting in the 1930s, his views on Vissilief and Max Nicholson, how army life disrupted his growth as an artist, his comments on members of the Angry Penguins circle.
