June Barker remembers the system of apprenticeship for Koori children and them being taken to various properties; being sent by her parents to Katoomba to escape the apprenticeship system. June is an Elder of the Indigenous community in western N.S.W.

June Barker was born in Victoria in 1935. Her father, an Indigenous evangelist, moved the family to the Brewarrina Aboriginal Mission. June's grandfather, Bill Ferguson was an activist for Indigenous rights in the 1930s.
