"Water is a precious commodity that is vital to the ongoing viablity of many diverse industries. The efficient use of water is paramount and impacts heavily in the area of irrigation. Training is a major issue for the industry as there have only been qualifications available in recent years. Training will impact positively on the efficient use of irrigation. All industries that rely on irrigation as their main means of income or as part of the production process will benefit from more efficient use of water. The aim of the project was to increase access to training by providing information on availablity and career pathways, by encouraging RTOs [registered training organisations] to offer appropriate irrigation training, providing assistance to RTOs in conducting courses through advice on resources and suitable trainers, by offering a means to acquire specific competencies that cannot be accessed from other RTOs. In order to ensure the efficient use of this precious commodity and at the same time increase the professionalism of the people working in the irrigation industry, Irrigation Australia Limited (IAL), through this Horticulture Australia Ltd (HAL) funded project, set out to deliver a range of initiatives through provided access to an expanded number of training opportunities to improve water use efficiency in horitculture industries throughout Australia."--P. 1.
