- Summary:
-
An introduction to hindi syntax is presented for teaching the sentence structure of hindi to non-hindi speaking learners of the language. The analysis of the elements of the hindi sentence and of sentence types was made by use of transformational grammatical theory. The manual is intended for the use of teachers and students who are acquainted with basic literature on contemporary linguistics. It may be useful for students in a classroom situation or for intermediate or advanced students as a reference guide for use without the aid of a teacher. In addition to a glossary, a bibliography is included that is divided into two sections--(1) studies on general linguistics and syntax of English and (2) studies on syntax and lexis of hindi. (al)
