On the premise that the design of a school, its spaces and facilities must permit and support the educational function, this study considers the potential effects of TV on future school structure and facilities. The conclusion is that no special architectural allowance need be imposed for TV reception in the school beyond provisions for cable conduits for closed-circuit transmission and for studios used to originate a program. However, detailed guidelines for planning future facilities are presented in color sketches and pictures throughout the report. The information was gathered through interviews and discussions with teachers and administrators across the U.S. Chapter 1 includes numerical, percentage, and cost data regarding current and future student-teacher-space relationships. Chapter 2 diagrams TV systems for varying school needs. Chapter 3 details the relationship of teaching image to group size, viewing angles and distances, and discusses acoustics, lighting and ventilation. Chapters 4 and 5 sketch equipment and space designs. The report ends with background facts and sources, including equipment and cost information, and a glossary.
