- Summary:
-
The sunday cartoon roundup. The Petrov papers are released to the public, revealing no proof that the Menzies Government conspired to stage-manage Petrov's defection in order to to keep Labor out of government. With an early election looming, the Coalition knows it's going to have to aim low if they're going to put a dent in Prime Minister Hawke's popularity. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union steps up its attack on President Reagan when Soviet Foreign Minister Andrei Gromyko implies that an administration led by Democrat presidential aspirant Walter Mondale would be more acceptable to the Soviet Union. And finally, any suggestions about Treasurer Paul Keating's superior qualities as a financial manager are not going to go down well with former Liberal Prime Minister and Treasurer Sir William McMahon.--Information provided by Geoff Pryor.
