The syllabus is an attempt to integrate plane geometry with arithmetic, algebra and numerical trigonometry brought about by: (1) greater use of fractions and percents in mensuration problems; (2) use of approximate number; (3) use of algebraic symbolism and proof; (4) use of algebraic equations in the solution of geometric problems; and (5) an introduction to coordinate geometry. The scope of content is: transition from informal to formal geometry, formal geometry (triangles, inequality, parallelism and perpendicularity, angle sum, locus, circles, angle measurement, similarity, areas, regular polygons and measurement of circles) constructions, formulas, arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, and coordinate geometry. Suggestions for teaching, for time schedule and for sequencing are included. (JG) aMay also be available online.
