- Summary:
-
Occupational orientation, one of several titles used for a movement that is affecting all levels of public education, is an area where industrial arts can play a significant role. There is a strong relationship between the two, and the implications for occupational education are important and valid for industrial arts in an era so profoundly affected by industry and technology. Educators must help individuals understand their potential, capabilities, and emotional and psychological qualities. Industrial arts can make a significant contribution by helping the individual to: (1) understand himself, (2) develop societal awareness, and (3) develop fundamental skills. Each of these areas deals with the general educational development of people with no specific identification of fixed manipulative skills, jobs, or occupations. They are in essence broad areas of competence vital to effective occupational orientation. (Author/GEB)
