Presented in this document are the results of a study that had as its purpose to discover the means that college students in Washington State use in financing their educations. Findings include: (1) almost 50% of the students reported 1971 parental income of between $9,000 and $18,000; (2) over 50% of the students work during the school year with the average hours of employment falling between 15 and 20 hours per week; (3) students' earnings are the primary source of money to pay for their educations; (4) 25% of the students reported borrowing money at some time during their academic careers; (5) over 50% of the respondents considered themselves primarily self-supporting; (6) under 20% of the survey population described themselves as recipients of student financial aid; and (7) veterans comprise 16.9% of the total survey population. Other chapters deal with the cost of going to college, the resources available to pay off college, parental contributions, distribution of student aid, projecting student needs, and the Federally Insured Student Loan Program in Washington.
