Notes

Ms. map of Australia, Australasia, South East Asia and Oceania with annotations by Louis Claude de Saulces de Freycinet. Base map shows coastline of southeastern Australia and northern and western Tasmania missing, with ms. annotations added by Freycinet showing the coastline of South Australia and Victoria sketched in, in pencil. The course of the Swan River is marked and the correct form of Cape Leeuwin is drawn in. There are historical annotations of earlier Dutch voyages along the north-west Australian coast.

"Louis-Claude de Saulces de Freycinet (1779-1842) "Chart of Australia" by M. D'Entrecasteaux. Annotated in pencil by Freycinet on board ship "Le Casuarina" during its return voyage to France from Port Jackson 1802-1803, Freycinet's markings show course of Swan River WA. Later published in Peron & Freycinet "Voyage de decouvertes aux Terres Australes", Paris 1811. Provenance: Claude, Baron de Saulces de Freycinet, France."--Caption from framed print.
