- Summary:

The enrollment forecast is prepared each year to provide a consolidated data source for those concerned with higher education in the State of Washington. The 1977-79 biennial forecast is made for each public four-year institution, using actual fall 1976 data. Analyses show that previous enrollment growth is ending, and that stabilization or decline in enrollment is in store. Headcount enrollments are increasing faster than full-time equivalent enrollments. These trends can be attributed to declining high school entrances, declining rate of succession from high school to college, and declining transfers from community colleges. Similarly, the percentage of veterans in the public state colleges and universities is declining. Data are arranged in tabular form, showing comparison of budget forecasts for the past years, annual average student credit hours by cost and course level for each institution, quaterly variation of credit hours (excluding summer) by course level for each institution, quarterly variation of cumulative percent of students by credit-hour intervals for each institution, annual average headcounts, summer school enrollments, community college enrollments according to demographic and institutional characteristics, and private college fall enrollments by institution.
