- Summary:
-
Self-study is described as a process wherein local school district guidance staffs, with the aid of consultants if needed, determine the objectives for guidance services within a local setting and establish methods by which those objectives can be met most effectively. Program objectives and related activities are formulated only after sufficient data are collected and analyzed to form the base for establishment of program priorities. The newly established behaviorally stated guidance program objectives then constitute a valid framework for program development, implementation and evaluation. Guidelines are presented for setting up such a self-study program in a school district guidance program. Topics discussed are: (1) understanding the community; (2) understanding the school; (3) understanding the perceptions of the guidance program's various publics; (4) collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and reporting the data; (5) developing a statement of guidance program goals; and (6) developing objectives and activities for a specific guidance program.
