Materials contained in this curriculum guide are designed for use in carrying out the World of Related Knowledge and Educational Development (WORK-ED) program goal of enabling ninth grade students not enrolled in traditional college prep courses to make career choices based on occupational information. The guide is divided into two major components; communications and career clusters. The communications area, emphasizing skill proficiency in those skills necessary to survive and succeed in the world of work, require students to spend one quarter of the school year covering all aspects of communications with emphasis on human values, reading, oral skills, and writing skills for practical communications. The guide's second component, career clusters, provides occupational information for the following eight career clusters and is designed to be taught by industrial arts and classroom teachers in cycles of twenty-two days: Agriculture or Environmental Science, Business, Career Guidance, Carpentry, Drafting, Graphic Arts, Health Careers, and Home Economics. The format for the communications component includes an introduction, course objectives, activities, resources, bibliography, and student material for duplication including evaluation instruments. The format for the Career Clusters component includes an introduction, course objectives, activities, careers in cluster, glossary of terms, resources, bibliography, and student material for duplication.
