- Summary:
-
College students need a learning environment that encourages them to develop their reasoning abilities, as well as to master course content. This booklet discusses an attempt to create such an environment: the ADAPT program at the University of Nebraska. ADAPT, Accent on Developing Abstract Processes of Thought, is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach that introduces freshmen to university work expectations. The program is based on Piagetian theory and includes courses in anthropology, economics, English, history, mathematics, and physics. Following two introductory chapters on Piagetian theory, nine chapters describe various aspects of the ADAPT program, and two chapters provide evaluations of the program. (RL)
