A one semester high school industrial English course emphasizes the reading, writing, and speaking skills that relate to improved performance and understanding of vocational concepts. The course, particularly valuable for students who do not plan to attend college, is built around 15 units, which are varied according to student needs. The units involve students in writing for different audiences, writing memoranda, writing business letters, planning careers, preparing forms and letters used in applying for jobs, preparing for personal interviews, working with business forms, practicing effective oral communication and business telephone conversations, taking notes and outlining, using illustrations in reports, writing descriptions of mechanisms, preparing instructions and process descriptions, writing definitions of words, writing different types of reports, and writing a major report.
