The purpose of the Transition to Technology Program (TTT) is to introduce persons who have traditionally not been exposed to technological education or careers to an overview of the basic concepts of technology and career options in technical fields. Women, minorities, and the economically and educationally disadvantaged, those groups with low representation in technical education and employment, comprise the primary audience for the program. TTT is a one-semester, nine-hour per week, team-taught interdisciplinary program. Components are modularized and include career advisement and guidance and basic instruction in manufacturing materials and processes, industrial graphics, electronics, computers, and technical mathematics. Course techniques include lecture, small and large group discussions and instruction, speakers from and field trips to local industry, demonstrations, and opportunities for skills development. Following a discussion of program costs and descriptions of the implementation, evaluation, and revision of the program, appendices illustrate its various aspects. These cover: (1) the projected distribution of 166,500 job opportunities among major occupational groups in Santa Clara County; (2) enrollments and student characteristics in occupational programs; (3) student math background; (4) TTT evaluation report and instrument; (5) field trip questionnaire; (6) course development guide; and (7) course outlines.
