- Summary:
-
The problems of relating research to practice are discussed in the context of what, why, and how. The what of recent research is illustrated by examples which suggest that media-related research is becoming more rigorous, analytical, and theoretical, and thus more reliable and generally applicable. The why is briefly argued with reference to the greater reliability of research-based information over that learned on the job by an individual practitioner. The how is considered by noting the large available reservoir of relevant findings and by describing a way of cognitively relating the practitioner's questions to the researcher's findings through their common interest in relating instructional conditions to instructional effects. A list of references is provided. (Author/RAO)
