- Summary:

This report describes two interactive television systems built at Stanford University using funds from an equipment grant. Both employ digital systems to provide a method for students to respond to a question from an instructor or a computer. In the Interactive Classroom System, each student has a switch that he or she can set to any one of ten positions. The Individualized Instruction System provides each student with an alphanumeric keyboard, a color television set, and a single-frame memory. Both systems are intended to provide "testbeds" that can be used by faculty and students to develop new instructional techniques to make effective use of these forms of digital response technology.
