Summary

This report on child support enforcement among Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) recipients in May, 1975, is Part II of a three-part broad study of recipient characteristics. Part I provides demographic and program statistics; Part III offers data on the financial circumstances of AFDC families. The data were derived from a sample survey which included all states and jusisdictions except Guam. The minimum sample required from each state was one-half of one percent, but states were given the option to submit larger samples computed by specified formulas. Twenty-nine states provided samples large enough for reliable state data to be included in the tabulations. Data are also shown for all 10 Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) regions. Sample data are inflated to represent all families receiving money payments during the study month. Therefore, the data are subject to sampling variability and, as in all surveys, the figures are subject to errors of response. A brief overview of child support enforcement in 1975 prefaces the 10 tables included in the report. Appendices provide a glossary of selected terms and a discussion of sample design and of data accuracy. (Author/RH)
