- Summary:
-
The Statistical Analysis System (SAS) is presented as the single most appropriate statistical package to use as an aid in teaching statistics. A brief review of literature in which SAS is compared to SPSS, BMDP, and other packages is followed by six examples which demonstrate features unique to SAS which have pedagogical utility. Of particular merit is the capability to create simulated data sets which may be used to: (1) demonstrate characteristics of sampling distributions, (2) provide individualized data sets for student use, and (3) allow for discussing of Type 1 errors and power. In the final example, the MATRIX procedure is used to provide various solutions to the single-factor repeated measures design. (Author/MK)
