Summary

The thesis presented is that the faculty, or more precisely the perspective it takes on academic programs and the actions based on those perceptions, is the critical factor for most collegiate institutions in the next decade. The prospect for the eighties will be substantially influenced by how well faculty are able to deal with curricular issues generated by the knowledge-information revolution underway. It is suggested that faculty will have to develop or refine capabilities not now fully appreciated, especially the techniques of curriculum analysis, organization for collective action, and the capacity to invent programs for learning that will fit into the patterns of technological growth. These ideas and approaches are outlined in detail, illustrated by charts and tables of curriculum data. (MSE)
