Interpersonal Communication Education in Australia [microform] : Problems and Challenges for Teaching and Administration / Harry Irwin

Format MicroformMicroform, BookBook
Author
Irwin, Harry

Description [Washington, D.C.] : Distributed by ERIC Clearinghouse, 1980
25 p.
Summary

The development of interpersonal communication programs in Australia is occurring in difficult times for academic institutions, creating numerous problems. Some are concerned with teaching: stereotypical views of communication and communication educators, development of a theoretical framework for research, initial reaction by students against interpersonal communication, lack of program articulation with other disciplines, and domination of teaching resources by the U.S. Other problems are concerned with administration program development during budget cuts, declining staff morale, and development of local and international information networks. Opportunities for solving the problems are more evident in the teaching area than in the administrative area, because the latter covers a larger scope. The challenge is to bring them to the attention of those making budgetary decisions so that they are duly considered when decisions are made. (Author/MSE)
