This fully revised manual of procedures for evaluation visits presents guidelines for site visits to library schools seeking accreditation for their programs of study. Visits to such schools provide the Committee on Accreditation with data to assist in reaching a judgment whether to grant accredited status. The area of responsibility for the committee is defined and excerpts from the 1972 Standards for Accreditation are used to define the categories of accreditation. The body of the manual provides detailed instructions for administration, scheduling, applications, team composition, travel and financial arrangements, visit formats, activities and limitations, content and preparation of reports, committee decision-making processes and report notifications, appeals, public relations, accreditation status, and visits conducted in cooperation with regional associations. A separate section addresses the special aspects of continuing review of accredited programs. An advisory or consultant service is provided to assist library schools working towards accreditation, as well as procedures for handling complaints against accredited programs. (Author)
