This reference volume on career lines provides two sets of information for 384 different occupations or jobs. Two discussions preface the prototypes: (1) illustration of a career line and elaboration on the concepts and (2) discussion of job and worker characteristics that provide detailed information about each occupational grouping examined. The first page for each set of career lines reports three classes of supplementary information: ten characteristics of the workers in the particular job, ten characteristics of each job, and the reported earnings for workers by age in the job. The second page graphically displays the career lines for specific occupations. The occupations are divided into eleven broad divisions: professional, technical, and kindred workers; managers and administrators, except farm; sales workers; clerical and kindred workers; craftsmen and kindred workers; operatives, except transport; transport equipment operatives; laborers, except farm; farmers, farm managers, farm laborers, and farm foremen; service workers, except private household; and private household workers.
