Prepared as part of the Unesco INTERCONCEPT pilot project, this study tests the relevance of a set of guidelines for the design of glossaries in the social sciences. The Library of Congress "Glossary of Library Networking" was chosen for this purpose. This paper discusses the analytic problem of glossary design in relation to its intended uses, and explains the annexes which follow: (1) an extract from the networking glossary; (2) the results of a term tracking exercise; (3) a chained sequence of records using materials of the previous annex; (4) a transitional classified arrangement of the same records; (5) a revised classification of the same concept; (6) an index to the terms contained in Annexes B to E; and (7) a final index of the technical terms required in glossary design.
