The monograph was designed for special educators working with the severely mentally retarded and it examines methods of providing vocational training and educational opportunities for this population. The first chapter, by D. Biklen and G. In Chapter 2, "The Career Education Needs of Severely Mentally Retarded Persons" by D. Brolin, the concept of career education is expanded to include economic, social, and vocational fulfillment of retarded persons. "Developmentalism and Career Education: Their Relationship to Severely Mentally Retarded Persons" by S. Sellars explores the need for a philosophy of human development. D. Stoddard discusses "A Technical Strategy for Career Education and Career Development of Severely Mentally Retarded Persons" in the fourth chapter. In the final chapter W. Usdane considers the "Exploration of the Need for a Career Education and Career Development Specialist Program in Job Placement" with special populations. (Author/PHR)
