Biography/History

"Valerie Fletcher (nee Snell) was born in Darwin in 1923 and was brought up in the Territory where she studied to become a school teacher. Her secondary schooling was in Queensland as no secondary schooling was available in the Northern Territory then. She was amongst those evacuated from Darwin just before the bombing of Darwin. After World War II she lived in Queensland and continued her teaching career. She attended the University of Queensland obtaining her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctorate there. On the death of her husband, Colin Fletcher, she retired to Darwin to be with her daughter and family"--Back cover.
