- Summary:
-
The six articles in this journal issue deal with teachers intervening in the writing process (what happens before the student turns in a paper for a grade). The articles focus on the following topics: (1) some objectives and classroom practices for teaching the composing process; (2) a composing profile and a system for developing a student centered writing curriculum; (3) the need for teacher awareness and response to "writer based prose," those preliminary drafts of compositions that reveal both the seeds of ideas that students need to develop and the stylistic flaws they need to eliminate; (4) reducing writing anxiety in a cross-cultural educational experience; (5) sentence combining and paragraph building using standard textbooks like Warriner's "English Grammar and Composition"; and (6) what not to teach about the research paper in college freshman English classes.
