Summary

Reports from contact schools in twelve countries participating in the Council of Europe's project on innovation in primary education are summarized in this paper. It begins with tables providing an overview of the schools participating in the project and their specific projects. Following this are detailed reports from each country. Countries are: Austria, Cyprus, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and United Kingdom. For each country the following areas are covered: (1) theme of the project; (2) objectives of the project, including effects on the pupils, teachers, parents, schools and other authorities, and the public; (3) teachers' interests; (4) means to implement aims, including specific teaching methods, training, theoretical discussions and development, teaching aids, and staff arrangements; (5) advice from specialists; (6) criteria for decision-making; (7) flow of information; (8) evaluation; (9) finance; (10) cooperation; and (11) advantages from exchanges.
