Two products are presented from Project PREVOCATIONAL, designed to focus on entry-level skills and performance levels in 30 vocational education programs for mildly and moderately mentally retarded students. The curriculum is based on a philosophy of exploration, practice and attainment and focuses on short term instructional objectives for 31 goals in six areas (sample goals in parentheses): (1) academic skills (math, money skills, measuring); (2) physical skills (dexterity, memory, pace); (3) social skills (appearance, peer and employer relations); (4) work attitude (self concept, work concept); (5) work behavior (accuracy, attendance, perseverance, teamwork); and (6) work performance (choices, communication, timing). The project's second product is the Prevocational Assessment Battery, designed to assess the readiness of mildly retarded students for vocational program placement. The battery measures preparedness in six categories of training (tied to the curriculum) for 30 vocational programs. Components of the battery include a student profile of functioning in 31 prevocational skills, a criterion-referenced checklist of prevocational skills, and a program/job entry-level profile. (CL)
