Directed at personnel responsible for distance education in India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, the training materials in this publication have been compiled with the help of distance educators in each of these geographical regions. The materials are classified into three categories and presented in separate sections under the following titles: Course Production, Support Services, and Assessment and Evaluation. The topics cover the following areas: (1) suggested guidelines to lesson writers; (2) formulation of learning objectives; (3) experimentation with self-learning lessons; (4) developing a course design; (5) developing a student profile; (6) writing a module for distance learning; (7) organizing tutorial systems; (8) examples of tutorial practices; (9) selecting appropriate media; (10) an overview of assessment and evaluation (Pakistan); (11) assessment and evaluation (New Zealand); (12) evaluation in distance learning (Philippines); (13) developing an assessment system for a distance learning system; (14) an evaluation instrument for module development; and (15) evaluating distance education programs. A list of six publications related to the field of distance education completes the document. (JB)
