Written for use with the REEP (Refugee Education and Employment Program) Curriculum, this curriculum guideline makes modifications and includes additions to make the REEP curriculum suitable for use in any non-intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program. (The REEP Curriculum is intended for use in an intensive five-day per week program; a non-intensive program meets only two to three times per week.) A curriculum user's guide offers program guidelines. Vocabulary inventories follow for the REEP Curriculum and Level BIV. Volume II of the "English as a Second Language Resource Manual" appears next. This manual contains descriptions of general techniques used to present the material (purpose, directions, variations, notes), literacy activities (purpose, number of players, materials, directions, variations), and ESL activities by competency (estimated time, purpose, materials, directions, variations). Other contents of the curriculum guideline include a section with pronunciation guidelines and "A Bibliography That Works," a guideline for recommendations, curriculum construction, and supplements appropriate for use in ESL programs for adult and high school students.
