These two reports provide a longitudinal perspective on Riverside City College (RCC) students who transferred to the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems. Data available on the CSU transfers include numbers of transfers, 1970-1984; RCC's share of total transfers to the CSU system; broad grade point averages (GPA's) of regular and exceptional admits, 1980-1983; percentages of regular and exceptional admits, 1980-1983; continuation rates, 1980-1983; average transfer GPA, 1980-1983; GPA's earned at CSU, 1980-1983; and GPA differentials, 1980-1983. For UC transfers, the data presented include numbers of first-time fall transfers, 1963-1984; basis for admission to UC, 1978-1983; total RCC entrants to the UC system, 1978-1983; RCC and UC GPA's of transfer students, 1963-83; UC majors of RCC transfers, 1979-1983; first-year performance of RCC transfers by UC campus; and ethnic distribution of RCC transfers. Selected findings include the following: (1) more RCC students transferred to CSU than UC; (2) over 90% of the RCC students entered CSU as regular admits, earning GPA's of 2.73, 2.71, and 2.71 for 1981, 1982, and 1983, respectively; (3) there was a steady increase in the number of RCC students transferring to the UC system from 1963 to 1975, followed by a sharp, steady decline until fall 1982; and (4) between 1978 and 1983, RCC had a much higher percentage of its transfers admitted by special action to the UC system than did all of California's community colleges (24% versus 14%).
