Three "in school" preprimary centers in the greater Toronto area were subjects for a set of case studies. Information pertaining to the establishment, funding, programs/services, and the nature of adult/community involvement was collected. Resulting descriptions revealed some variety in programs/services, such as parent-child "drop in," infant-toddler day care, and a parent cooperative associated with a family studies program. In all instances center provisions reflected the particular purpose for which the center had been established. Funding for these centers originated from several sources including parent fees and grants from community group/agencies and school boards. Although the exact nature of parent participation and/or involvement differed from one setting to another, the group of studies suggested increasing parent and community involvement in requesting certain programs/services for young children and their families, and in participation in decision-making about the form and direction of programs and services. Also revealed were different patterns of school participation/involvement in supporting the centers. (Author/RH)
