This curriculum guide was developed to update information that is crucial to business and office students as they examine career possibilities and go about the job-seeking process. New information in the areas of job descriptions, career terminology, statistics related to career opportunities, placement, and careers with high rates of projected growth in the next decade are included in this revised guide. Reference/resource listings, including many computer-assisted materials, have also been updated and expanded. Four units cover the following topics: the importance of choosing a career, personal qualities for the world of work, sources of information and occupational requirements, and developing a career plan. Each instructional unit includes these basic components: performance objectives, suggested activities for teachers and students, information sheet, assignment sheets, key to assignment sheets, transparency masters, test, and test key. Units are planned for more than one lesson or class period of instruction during a one-semester course. Lessons can be utilized as an introductory part of a vocational course; several of the units could also be used in postsecondary and adult training programs. Appendixes to the guide list references and supplementary resource materials. (KC)
