To fulfill the sex equity mandate begun in the 1976 Vocational Education Amendments and continued in the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 1984, and to assess the degree of change in vocational sex equity in Virginia over the last several years, this status report covering a five-year period (1980-1984) was developed. The opening sections contain the analyses of both secondary and postsecondary (community college) vocational enrollments as well as an analysis of secondary vocational instructors and administrators. Extensive tables detailing male and female enrollment by program and by course are presented in the middle and later sections of the publication. Terms used in this status report are defined at the end of the publication. The report shows that the state has made progress toward the elimination of sex-role stereotyping in some programs and in some courses, and yet there are others in which change is still needed. Some programs have not changed at all or have changed very little, and this has an effect on employment opportunities, especially for women. In addition, the data indicate that men are not moving into "women's" fields because of low pay and also because of the stigma caused by sex-role stereotyping. (KC)
