The annotated bibliography of research on Canadian core French programs, in which French is taught as a regular subject in English-language schools, provides a comprehensive summary of empirical research since 1970. It includes research reports from school boards, reports of government-funded research, unpublished theses, published books, and journal articles. It is organized in six main sections: (1) a description of the bibliography; (2) an overview of research findings in each of eight categories (program characteristics and outcomes, student characteristics, factors affecting enrollment, teacher characteristics, opinion surveys on core French programs, program implementation and administration, and development and validation of tests and materials); (3) a list of studies by category; (4) the annotations themselves, each of which provides information on the study's purpose, program, subjects, instruments, procedures, results and conclusions; (5) descriptions of some French proficiency and attitude tests used in the research projects; and (6) an alphabetical listing, by author, of all of the studies and tests included in the bibliography. Annotations for studies written in the French language are also presented in French. (MSE)
