Summary

A detailed description about the origin of students in Kentucky state-supported and independent institutions of higher education is features. Information about county and state of origin for all students, first-time freshmen, and professional students is included as well as definitions of terms. Lists of the membership in the Commonwealth of Kentucky Council on Higher Education, senior colleges and universities, junior colleges, and community colleges in Kentucky are provided. All of Kentucky's 120 counties are represented. The regional drawing power of colleges and universities is evidenced by the number of first-time freshmen who enroll at institutions near their home county. Public community colleges are most likely to attract students from home and contiguous counties (93%). Of the senior public institutions, the University of Louisville (77%) and Northern Kentucky University (61%) have the highest home and contiguous county proportions. The University of Kentucky (26%) and Eastern Kentucky University (26%) drew three fourths of their first-time freshmen from other than home or contiguous counties. The average home and contiguous county proportion for the state supported sector was 57%. The 25 reports are on: enrollment by county and state of origin; first-time freshmen enrollment by county and state of origin; first-time professional enrollment by county and state or origin; enrollment by county of origin; total enrollment as a percent of population and first-time freshmen enrollment as a percent of high school graduates by county of origin.
