Summary

Drawing on statistics from 2007/2009, this report provides a snapshot of the health of boys and men in Australia. Topics include: lifestyle factors influencing male health, life expectancy and burden of disease, and service utilisation. Information is provided on age distribution and demographic characteristics, diet, physical activity, excess body weight, smoking, alcohol consumption, illicit drug use, violence, sexual risk behaviours, health literacy, mortality, long-term health conditions, mental health, disability, male reproductive and sexual health, workplace health, barriers to accessing health services, preventive health, use of Medicare, and use of specific health services. In 2010, there were 11.1 million males living in Australia, with many experiencing or at risk of poor health.
