Chapter 3 presents examples of promising programs and activities that may help administrators exert effective leadership. Chapter 4 highlights the induction strategies that two Oregon districts (North Clackamas and Beaverton) use to induct principals. Chapter 5 examines induction programs in medium and small school systems and features a collegial observation and support program coordinated by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory in which the Sandy, Estacada, and Reynolds School Districts involve their principals. The final chapter summarizes effective induction activities and offers recommendations for improvement. Appended are 30 references and a list of 26 persons who were interviewed. (SI)
