Approximately 30 policies and classed profiles are presented in this first comprehensive collection development policy statement for the California State University at Sacramento (CSUS) Library. The profiles--which comprise the bulk of the text--were prepared by examining each part of the curriculum and matching each with the corresponding call numbers used in the Library of Congress classification system. Library collection development librarians, in consultation with faculty from each academic department, determined existing and desired collecting levels (i.e., Minimal, Basic, Initial Study, Advanced Study, Research, and Comprehensive) as well as chronological, language, and geographical characteristics of the collection required by the curriculum. Policies address the following: newspapers, periodicals, theses and projects, newsletters and current awareness publications, textbooks, house organs, online database services, duplicates and replacements, gifts, recreational reading materials, reserve room materials, and resource sharing. Special and form collection policies are also provided for archives, rare books and manuscripts, California state and local documents, U.S. Government documents, international documents, audiovisual materials, microforms, slides, the curriculum collection, juvenile literature, maps, and software. Appendixes list of CSUS undergraduate and graduate degrees and programs; mission statements for CSUS and the CSUS Library; librarians and faculty coordinators; and extracts from pertinent American Library Association statements. A subject index is provided. (SD)
