This report of a conference contains an introduction to the problem of drug use among pregnant women and the following presentations: (1) "Impact of Crack Cocaine and Other Drugs on Mothers and Children" (Margaret Lynn Yonekura); (2) "Providing Continuous and Comprehensive Services" (Neal Halfon); (3) "Stretching Resources To Reach Increasing Numbers of Families" (Xylina Bean); (4) "Ethical Dilemmas and Public Policy" (David Chavkin); (5) "Generations At Risk to the Nightmare of Addiction" (Gina Barclay-McLaughlin); (6) "The Mandela House Program: Recovering Mothers Speak" (Minnie Thomas); and (7) "A Political Overview from California" (Diane Watson and Jackie Speier). Highlights are presented from 10 workshops conducted at the conference: The Impact of Drug Exposure on the Development of Infants and Toddlers; Prevention Efforts in the Public Schools; Health Issues of Alcohol and Drug-Exposed Babies; Working With Families Impacted by Addiction; Ethical, Legal, and Policy Implications of Substance Abuse During Pregnancy; Caring for Drug- and Alcohol-Exposed Babies; Following Drug-Exposed Babies to School; Social Service and Foster Care Issues; Chemical Dependency Treatment for Pregnant Addicts; and Building Coalitions and Interagency Collaborations.
