- Summary:
-
A study examined the ethical dilemmas faced by Australian early childhood professionals. Data were obtained from responses to a questionnaire mailed to 25 preschool centers and 25 child care centers in Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and the Northern Territory. Of 300 questionnaires mailed, a total of 99 valid questionnaires were returned. Findings bear on three issues in particular: (1) the field's perception of the need for a code of ethics; (2) the low response rate of workers with 6 to 10 years of experience in the early childhood field; and (3) conflicts with parents. Another point for consideration raised by the survey data is the possible inclusion of training in both philosophical and practical ethics in preservice and postgraduate levels for all early childhood workers.
