- Summary:

Literature on clinical experiences in educational administration programs is reviewed along with materials collected from University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) member institutions. Focus is on materials that support the value of structured clinical experiences. A framework for clinical experiences is developed, which is based on the following goals: assessing career commitment; refining school goals; practicing in realistic settings; developing competence; and promoting personal professional development. These purposes are incorporated into a three-level program plan, consisting of an aideship, internship, and associateship stage. Suggested operational guidelines for internship programs include job content analysis, alignment of the theory/practice relationship, and selection of appropriate learning experiences.
