- Summary:
-
The training of library staff in interlending and document supply, an area often overlooked in library education and training programs, is explored, beginning with a survey of library associations and a range of schools and departments of library and information science. Responses from approximately 20 associations and 103 schools form a basis for examining existing training programs and activities worldwide. The problems of interlending are discussed; and the objectives, structure, and content of appropriate training modules are outlined. The modules are suggested to provide a sketch of the essential elements in training for interlending at all levels, but are not meant to be a total package for training. A discussion of the practical aspects of interlending and document supply contains seven examples of references that can cause problems for the interlending librarian. An appendix contains some internationally agreed-on codes of practice and procedures in international lending. (Contains 96 references.) (SLD)
