"These artistic photographic prints record the final vestiges of traditional Tokugawa Japan as the culture slowly emerged into the modern era (Meiji period). Temples, gardens, Shinto shrines, Kyoto shrines and street scenes, and small village scenes, Mt. Fuji, tea huts, Japanese bridges, portraits of Geishas, and a Kyoto sandal shop, are just a few examples of the sujcet matter portrayed herein. Gilt edged hand coloured Albumen prints, bound in leather spine and contemporary thick Japanese lacquer boards with gold image of swans over a moonlit river.

Album of 50 mounted col. photographs. p. [33] - [50] are uncaptioned and unnumbered. Pagination annotated in pencil.
